In Memoriam Elmarie Costandius

This special issue of Critical Studies in Teaching and Learning, titled "Doing Pedagogy Differently: In Memory of Elmarie Costandius", honours the profound and enduring impact of Prof. Costandius' work in higher education, particularly her commitment to social justice, embodied learning, and creative pedagogical experimentation. Elmarie’s legacy as an art educator and pedagogue lives on in the eleven contributions, each inspired by her generous, curious, and relational approach. The articles explore themes such as embodied pedagogy, critical citizenship, visual redress, decolonial and interdisciplinary practices, multilingualism in writing centres, and arts-based concept development. Together, they foreground Elmarie’s influence in challenging dominant academic norms and cultivating inclusive, affective, and socially engaged spaces for teaching and learning.
